Material Handling Information
- Working with LOSP or Boron treated timber
- Wear gloves when working with the material
- If skin is exposed to the material wash exposed skin thoroughly after use
- Wear a dust mask and goggles when cutting or sanding the material
- Wash work clothes separately from other clothing
- Only use preserved wood that is visibly clean and free of surface residue
- Use fasteners, hardware, or any metal products as recommended by their manufacturer
- If wood is to be used in an interior application and becomes wet during construction, it should be allowed to dry before being covered or enclosed
Product Usage Guidelines
- Preserved wood should not be used where it may come into direct or indirect contact with drinking water.
- Do not use preserved wood for garden or plant mulch.
- Do not use preserved wood in applications where it may come into contact with food, animal feed, or beehive enclosures.
- Active-ingredient preservatives recognized for pressure treatment by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Wood is treated to conform to the AWPA Use Category 3A.
Protecting your Installation
Surfaces exposed by machining, drilling or cutting must be re-treated with a cut-end preservative and primed. Failure to re-treat will affect the value of the preservative. Ripping, sawing, and planing are not recommended unless the wood is subsequently re-preserved to the original specification.
Adhesives and Sealants
Contour Exterior timber mouldings and trim products are compatible with most coatings, glues, and sealants and can normally be coated with most wood finishes. Contour Exterior Mouldings and Trim products may be glued with resorcinol, phenol/resorcinol, urea formaldehyde glues, or polyurethane adhesives. Contour Exterior mouldings and trim are compatible with most sealants and mastics. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Storage
Contour Exterior wood products are treated with the LOSP or Boron preservative treatment systems and should be stored in a weatherproof warehouse in their original packaged form. These appearance grade products should be treated with care on the construction site by keeping the material covered and off the ground.
Disposal & Cleanup Recommendations
Preserved wood may be disposed of in landfills or burned in commercial or industrial incinerators or boilers in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. All sawdust and construction debris should be cleaned up and disposed of after construction safely in a municipal landfill in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
