Tony Clifford - CEO
My role includes governing the overall strategic direction of the company as well as ensuring we have the people and systems to deliver on our customer’s expectations. I like to maintain a working relationship with all of our customers so that I can understand the implications of decisions made at PWP in their businesses.
My background is in engineering and I really enjoy seeing a finished product created from raw materials. I like to help our staff understand our business so that their knowledge and understanding contributes to the overall result.
I have trained in Statistical Process Control, which enables me to understand process variability. I have used this knowledge to help put in place systems that reduce and monitor process variation.
I have worked at PWP for 4 years and prior to this for 12 years for the parent company, Pan Pac Forest Products in both operations and business development roles.
Tony Desmond - General Manager

My involvement with PWP began a year before PWP came into existence. My work consisted of identifying potential opportunities and matching these with the resources available. Then developing people, plant, systems and a business (PWP) to convert these opportunities into products our customers could value.
Currently in my role as General Manager, I control the day to day operations of PWP. This involves the planning and sourcing of raw material, ensuring our systems for everything from staff recruitment and training through to final product delivery, offer our customers the best possible value in every sense. And finally ensuring that every day we do things a little better than we did the day before.
I have more than twenty years experience in the industry covering everything from tree planting, through owning and running my own sawmilling business, to planning and leading complex R&D projects.
Robin Hogg - Sales Manager
I joined the PWP Team in July 2008 as Sales Manager. I have 25 years experience working in export markets with a specialisation in North America - having lived there for 5 years while employed by a New Zealand corporate.
I have extensive business and market development experience and have led large sales teams with the brief of building a high performance culture with a customer-centric focus.
My role with PWP is more hands on - which I enjoy - with a specific brief to build global markets and channels to market that are a fit to PWP production capability and the wood resource available to us. I take pride in developing solutions for win-win outcomes.
My role with PWP enables me to capitalise on the experience gained in other forestry and building supplies industry related roles I performed.
Allan Bradley - Production Scheduler
I joined PWP in July 2003 as the Night Shift Supervisor, having recently emigrated from Zimbabwe where I ran a varied farming enterprise for 15 years. In June 2004 I was appointed to the newly created position of Production Scheduler.
My main role at PWP involves liaising with the sales department to finalize monthly demand through forecasts & firmed orders. I then allocate available machine capacity & feedstock to this demand, taking note of constraints & resolving any variances. Once a workable plan has been achieved, the planned completion dates are then communicated to the customer.
Orders are then tracked along their routeing through the plant, ensuring that the correct feedstock & relevant information is available at the planned times & machines. The schedule is monitored daily & any necessary changes are communicated to the shop floor & sales.
My aim is to provide all customers with real delivery dates & then to ensure that these are achieved. PWP’s DIFOTIS results have improved from mid 50% in 2002, to currently being just over 90%. Our aim is to consistently achieve over 95%, & as close to 100% as possible.
Glenn Allison - Production Manager
I have been with the company from its first day. My role with Pacific Wood Products is primarily the control and execution of the production plan, and ensuring that the plan is finished on time with a quality product fit for end use. My key focus and success indicator is building and maintaining a culture of safety, quality, and a highly trained and motivated workforce.
Previous to my employment with PWP, I was employed with Carter Holt Harvey where I worked my way through various roles gaining experience and knowledge of the timber industry.
Kathryn Mason - Administration Manager
I started at PWP in May 2006. My role is to co-ordinate all of the administrative and support functions required for our business to function efficiently and accurately. I provide a point of liason for our customers on the transactional details of our relationship with them.
I have a Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and 10 years accounting and administration experience in the manufacturing industry.
Darryl McKinlay - Plant Welfare Manager
I trained as an auto mechanic and worked in this trade for approx 8 years. I then worked in a small, family owned saw-mill for approx 15 years, and gained experience in every aspect of this business.
I started working for Pan Pac while the new dry-mill was being commissioned, and worked as timber machinist on the Coastal Planer for 4 years. I went from Panpac to PWP during the commissioning stage, starting as a timber machinist before progressing to Plant Welfare Manager which is the position I hold today.
My daily responsibilities include maintenance of the fixed plant and the training and overseeing of the timber machinists. Other areas of responsibility include involvement in the commissioning of new plant and getting it up to speed, and providing support to operational staff with training and advice.
My role involves ensuring that the manufacturing equipment is in excellent condition to produce top quality finished products that meet or exceed our customer’s requirements for quality and delivery. This is achieved through the use of systems such as preventive maintenance programmes and critical spare inventories.
Kate Cave - Production Scheduling Assistant

I started in my role in June 2007. I provide a friendly, efficient, first point of contact.
I also assist the production team in assuring accurate recording of daily performance and manage logistics of offsite processing.
My background includes 20 years in the financial industry, 5 of these being in the forestry and timber industries.
